PSA: Academy Monarch ammo would not fire correctly in 3 different pistols.

Yeah, I'm about fed up with their customer service right now. If they knew they were going to make a transition, they should have prepared for it. This is unacceptable. I had pretty much the same experience. I called on Tuesday for a warranty issue, and opted for a call-back due to the FOUR HOUR expected wait time. I tried again yesterday, but they were closed before I got off work. I got a call back this morning, but I was asleep and accidentally hung up (thought it was my alarm). I called back immediately, and was greeted with a 75 minute expected wait. Six hours later, and no call-back.

My first two handguns were a Taurus .357 revolver and a PT-99 9mm (Berettas were scarce at that time). The cycliner on the revolver kept working lose and the PT-99 had the rear sight falling apart. On 2/12/2025 Academy directed its stores to pull all of the 250 round boxes of Monarch 9mm Brass ammo from its shelves. The affected rounds were head stamped "TRN." These rounds were to be returned to the distribution center and any unaffected rounds were to be returned to the shelves. By happenstance I learned of this in speaking to an employee about why the store had very little selection of 9mm Brass ammo available. My Academy store gladly accepted my return of a few rounds of this ammo I had purchased earlier this year. Many shooters seem to have reported (in general) over the last few years that Turkish ammo head stamped TRN (apparently made in the Turan mfg facility) has fired with inconsistent results. I personally have fired plenty of Academy Monarch 9mm Brass ammo (head stamped MON and BPS) with no issue. Academy looks to be doing the right thing by taking returns on this particular ammo. Save for this one experience Academy has done a pretty good job with providing "price point" 9mm brass ammo and the MON and BPS brass processes nicely through my RL1100.
