Choosing Danielle over Dolores is mind boggling

I’m rewatching RHNJ and I’m on season 8 where Danielle tells Teresa that Dolores said Teresa only cares about money.

I don’t believe Dolores would say this firstly but even if she did, I can’t see how she would have said it to Danielle. She was suspicious of Danielle from the beginning so she’s the last person in the group she’s going to speak to in confidence, she’s painfully loyal to Teresa and the classic, Italians don’t like to talk about money.

I really cannot understand why Teresa AND Melissa chose to even go along with Danielle on this. As a genuine question because I can’t get it, can someone please explain to me why Teresa and Melissa even thought this could be true?

Edit: Some people have commented that they are pretty sure Dolores did say something (maybe more like “Teresa is focusing on making money right now as Joe is away”) and Danielle twisted this for the drama. I can definitely see that but it still begs the question of why Teresa and Melissa would think Dolores would go and bad mouth Teresa to Danielle of all people.
