Is Paper Jam considered canon in the Paper Mario series?

I haven't beat the game, I've just started the snow area. But I did have a question to ask - is this game considered canon? Like I'd assume it's canon in the Mario and Luigi series (I mean the next game would probably be a bit strange if they assumed that Paper Jam never happened) but is it canon in the Paper series? I wouldn't think it would be as it'd be kinda hard to explain how and why this all happened but it's still a possibility.
