Gaining Shield proficiency as a Warlock without multiclassing now very inefficient.
Title.
We're swapping over to the 2024 rules in our home game. I was previously a Hexblade Warlock, now swapping to GOO to try out the new rules. Wearing a shield was somewhat important to characters mental image and is on the mini, but the Moderatly Armoured feat no longer gives Shield proficiency and it feels really bad to spend a feat to get only shields and no armour upgrade
5e: Warlocks have Light Armour proficiency, but not Medium Armour or Shields. Lightly Armoured feat gives Light Armour, no Shield. Moderatly Armoured gives Medium Armour + Shields. Can get an armour upgrade and shields together
2024 5e: Warlocks have Light Armour proficiency but not Medium or Shields. Lightly Armoured gives Light Armour + Shields. Moderatly Armoured gives Medium Armour only. Can gain Medium Armour or Shields with one feat selection, not both
This problem also exists for Bards and Rogues. Seems like a weird oversight, especially when Druids still get shields while being majorly buffed and having tons of new Gishy abilities. Especially where it feels like this feat was designed in original 5e with these 3 classes in mind originally.
Edit: I'm not even playing as a Bladelock. I was Tome pact Hexblade for armour proficiencies and curse powers like Hexblade curse/maddening hex/ armour of hexes. Hexblade fulfilled a very nice niche of an armoured caster like cleric with no divine flavouring. Warlock has very little avenues for an armoured caster, a niche it already had in 5e.
