Troubleshooting help, ReDream PSU replacement/GDEmu

Before I get started, I understand that the PSU replacements like the pico/ReDream/dream PSUs are not the best, I decided to give it a try anyway and took the risk.

Yesterday morning I finally decided it was time to throw some mods at my Dreamcast that I’ve barely used for almost 2 years to breathe some life into it. I had a clone GDEmu from eBay, a ReDream PSU, and a noctua fan kit from laser bear, the fan and the GDEmu worked fantastic, and I had no complaints. I decided to install the ReDream, I plugged it in, powered the system on, SMOKE. It was definitely from the ReDream unit and not the Dreamcast, I’m fairly positive at this point that my install of the unit was sound, unit was all the way pressed into the power pins, connectors were well seated, I have no idea why this happened.

Unfortunately the system will not power on even with the original PSU. Unless I had the original GDrom drive installed as well, the system boots no problem with absolutely no issues with it, stays on too. So to avoid spending more money than I have to, I figured I’d ask here, to me it seems like the ReDream fried this GDEmu and nothing else. Should I get a new GDEmu or do we think it’s pointless?

Edit: I forgot to mention the external PSU I used for the ReDream is the one recommended by the creator of the board off of mouser.
