Is anyone else very ready for the Y2K/early 00s aesthetic to go away?
Maybe it’s just my aging middle Millennial self (b. 1988) but I feel like this aesthetic is extremely played out. It seems like 2019 was when the nostalgia really hit so we should be due for a vibe shift and I couldn’t be more ready. Baggy pants don’t look good on anyone. The liquid type/rave graphics visual aesthetic is ubiquitous to the point of having no edge. Teens and young 20-somethings dressing like a Limp Bizkit fan at the ‘99 Woodstock calamity is also just an odd choice to me in the context of what are prevailing attitudes of today’s youth around inclusion.
People talk about the cringe of being nostalgic about indie sleaze because of the glamorizing of substance abuse, insane body standards, and rampant problematic SA undertones that were acceptable during the late 00s…But where’s the commentary on being nostalgic for the Jnco dudes who idolized raging toxic masculinity, misogyny, and homophobia during the late 90s-early 00s? Right not everyone who dressed like that or listened to numetal back then was an asshole but let’s be real a lot of them were especially because it’s what was cool.
