I read Domestic Girlfriend because of Garnt
Howdy Folks,
The boys discussed DG a while back and while Connor and Joey didn't exactly give it glowing reviews, Garnt did. I had heard of the manga but people seemed to have made it out to be the worst thing out there. The way Garnt passionately talked about it made me want to read it. I am a sucker for romance and all the cliché, tropey bullshit that comes with the genre.
I could not put it down. I was enthralled, on multiple days I accidently didn't sleep. Did it have all the tropey anime bullshit you'd expect? Absolutely, but it was amazing. I have the bad habit of binge reading/watching shows and manga to the point that I sometimes don't even remember the characters names by the ending. But not this one, I wanted to know more about every single character introduced. The growth of the main character was beautiful to see happen, you could see him making progress, and failing and trying.
However, I finished it, it's now over. A lot of people seem to hate the ending, and I get why they would, but I don't. I understand why it is what it is. This manga has moved me in ways other pieces of media haven't in years. It both made me ecstatic and depressed, I want nothing more than to keep reading, but it is over. There is no more to read, I will reread it obviously but now I feel like I have an impossible space to fill in my heart. So sorry if this isn't really all that TT related, I just wanted to know if anyone else gave Domestic Girlfriend a try after the boys talked about it? I also wanted to thank and curse Garnt a little for being so damn right about this manga.
So, thank you Garnt for having a broad sense of taste for media and for defending those taste with such a passion that it's contagious. I loved DG and it is now my favorite manga, but also fuck you for giving me an impossibly large blank space to fill in my favorite anime/manga genre. I'm going to read even more romance manga's now to try and feel this again.
