Suggestion: Link Lab Slots for Aggregate Progress

So, feel free to say this is a dumb or broken idea, but here's the general idea:

So let's say you have 5 labs, and you have a high-priority research to complete. How about an option that lets you link labs to apply the lab efforts to merge into a single research selection?

For example I have a lab that takes 24 hours and it is assigned to slot 1. I want this lab sooner, so I link labs slots 1 and 2 and they merge to focus on this research. The research takes 12 hours now. Maybe even link a 3rd lab slot and now it takes 8 hours.

The downside is you aren't diversifying enough, but it will let you rush a lab that is important to you.

This could be a lab itself you could research levels 1-5. It could be capped at a certain amount of linked labs so it's not too broken, but it wouldn't make overall research any quicker, simply allows you to research high-priority labs faster while maintaining the net research time.
