The Parents Aren’t Doing Their Part

Teachers work hard to get 35 kids a class up to speed on the curriculum. On top of the administrative responsibilities, meetings, and random things that come up. They are doing their part.

Parents, on the other hand, are not doing their part.

How is it that kids come with the worst attitudes, disrespect authority, and are general nuisances to everyone around them? And despite repeat phone calls, report cards, the behavior never changes. To me, it’s obvious most parents see school as a daycare, there to raise their kids and teach them how to be productive citizens.

“Parents can’t teach their kids these things because they’re always at work.” Welcome to the club. That’s how I grew up, and I still was able to be respectful. Also, I have plenty of students whose parents work constantly, but they are able to still show respect and keep up with work.

It’s simply become that most parents don’t care how their kids are doing at work. Teachers hold up their end, but parents almost never.
