Mabilog granted with executive clemency
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has granted executive clemency to former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog. This decision was confirmed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who stated that the clemency was granted in view of Mabilog's long-standing commitment to good governance and the awards and recognition received by Iloilo City under his leadership. The executive clemency removes the penalties or disabilities resulting from Mabilog's administrative case.
Mabilog had faced graft charges and was previously included in a drug watch list by former President Rodrigo Duterte, which he has consistently denied. In September 2024, Mabilog posted bail over the graft charges lodged against him. The Office of the Ombudsman filed graft charges against Mabilog and councilor Plaridel Nava II with the Sandiganbayan over their alleged intervention in the awarding of a government contract to a towing services firm where they had an interest.
Former President Duterte included Mabilog in his drug watch list in 2016, and Mabilog has since maintained his innocence, saying he found his inclusion in the list "very unfortunate and disconcerting". Mabilog's legal counsel, Jeric Jucaban, thanked Marcos for granting the clemency, stating that it represents a new chapter for Mabilog and his family, as well as validation for those who believed in justice and second chances.
