Why is it harder to rotate a thumbstick on a controller clockwise vs counterclockwise?

The motion is the same, only reversed. So why do i find it like 18 times harder to make consistent clockwise rotations on a thumbstick while gaming, but i have no trouble rotating counterclockwise when I play? Interestingly, that's only with the left thumb, at least for me. For the right thumb, it's marginally easier to do clockwise and just takes a bit of extra focus to do counterclockwise. Any idea why this is and whether it's something that can be overcome?
