Slasher Metal/Gore Metal

A few weeks ago I made a topster to highlight albums that I felt were intended to horrify or terrify the listening. Today I wanted to do something similar, but based around my favorite horror subgenre: the slasher flick (and by extension gore worship)

I selected albums that I felt go beyond just your typical gore focused extreme metal. I wanted to include albums that I feel that horror is once again the name of the game, but this time all about the grotesque and the madmen. Atmosphere was a huge factor in my selection as you could probably grab any number of random BDM albums and there’d be a bunch of lyrics about disgusting shit. These albums are ones that I think make you feel like the killer is chasing you as you listen.

Some albums don’t entirely fit the above criteria imo, but when you’re titling your list “Slasher metal” you kinda have to have Mortician and CC on there. So albums that I feel have the most “horror” to the sound are near the top and descend from there. Besides the last album because…

No, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are not metal, BUT Idk when I’m ever gonna be able to talk about this masterpiece on this sub again. So I’m throwing it on because fuck the rules, it’s my chart! But it’ll be at the bottom just because it’s not a metal album.

So grab a beer, pop a squat, and blast some slasher metal. Just don’t say that you’ll “be right back.” Because we all know in a slasher, you won’t be back.
