MRCA PI Back Payment / Extra Payment

Hey team,

I have posted previously requesting advice on the MRCA PI process (Link). Fortunately, I am now at the stage where I have completed my PI specialist appointments, had DVA's questionnaires/assessments completed, and submitted. In theory, I could be receiving my compensation information any time in the next month or so. Woo!

However, I just had a mate receive his MRCA PI compensation information for Tinnitus. While it shows his payment amount (about $48k), he has also been informed he will receive an additional sum of $2k ish. He has also previously had another condition approved and paid out where he received multiple payments, one was the figure listed in the PI compensation letter and another payment on the same day without any details. In this case, both payments were a lot larger than the tinnitus.

When he called DVA to question if they paid him too much they said that it was correct and isn't contained in the letter. My mate now doesn't remember what they payment was for specifically and thinks it might have been back pay or something similar.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've had a decent look through DVA policies to find some mention but I'm not sure if I'm not looking hard enough or if my mate was a special case.

Any info to assist my curiosity would be appreciated.
