'The Boys' season 4 finale was stupid
Spoilers for season 4 of 'The Boys'.
This is my personal opinion. If you disagree with me, that's fine, go ahead and read the 100 other posts praising the finale. I just want my opinion on the internet to be validated.
Complain with me if you will, but oh my god the last two episodes paired with the finale annoyed the hell out of me, and I’d just like to bring out a few bullet points.
- Why randomly add in that Butcher cheated on Becca? Serves to do nothing but make me feel a bit repulsed by his character. We already know he’s not a perfect person by any means, but this was really the best way they could communicate that his relationship with Becca was rocky? Or that he’s genuinely a bad guy? I don’t understand it.
- The whole season it seems like Ryan is learning empathy, and becoming more afraid/disobedient towards his dad, but then kills Grace like that without a second thought. Even if it was accidental, I mean they really had to have him stare at the ground and then Butcher like a fucking sociopath?? I thought it was a dumb switch-up of his character. I wish they could’ve done that whole scene better.
- Frenchie and Kimiko. Why???? Just why??? They're family. They've established that their love goes deeper than just romance. This was positively stupid and made me feel nothing. I liked their relationship because it wasn't one built on attraction, it was built on a mutual trust and understanding of each other's upbringings, why the fuck are you dragging romance into this?
- I dislike how they gloss over Hughie sleeping with a changeling, and it's a little weird how they portrayed the whole thing. I mean, Hughie was technically raped by that person, and I feel like the response he gave Annie was somewhat weird and unrealistic. l'd feel super creeped out and uncomfortable if I had slept with somebody who wasn't my fiancé but was pretending to be.
- Neuman's death, while flashy, I feel like could've been done much better. A waste of a good character if you ask me.
- Kimiko's first words (in the show) being Noo to Frenchie getting mind controlled made me eye-roll. Good god I feel like they were really dramatizing the whole ending. I feel like it would've been more powerful had she been silently screaming Nooo and aligned better with her characterization.
That's it. Really hated some of the choices they made this season.
