How the hell can you choose some DAC right now?

Hi there.

The thing is - all I want some decent headphone DAC for my PC, that will be better, than my Realtek 0897 chipset, and to pay for it like 100 USD or something like it.

Currently I have Philips 9500 headphones, plan to get some IEM and maybe switch to Sennheiser 5++ series later on (I'm in Ukraine, my window of planning is quite limited).

So, I've started searching.

My direct PC connection have good sound in my headphones without any EQ, but the bass is lacking from back 3.5mm post, but OK'ish from front panel, but front panel is not an option because of PC placement and 2 dogs in my house, who can just snap the cord out accidentaly.

I also have Focusrite Solo 2nd gen - it's OK as DAC, have a lot of base, but without EQ'ing bass is muddy at low volume levels (and I didn't master EQ yet, but Oratory one and some random internet ones is fine, but too flat), and most annoying thing - the Solo just cut the power if I didn't use it for some hours and then when it reconnects when I start playing music or starting the game it clicks, just didn't reconnect few times etc. Not often, but not fun at all.

That's why I started to read Reddit and watch youtube, and now I'm in a rabbit hole, where everything seems so strange that I'm annoyed a bit.

Pro DAC's that future proof in 100-ish category - no headphone jack, need AMP's.

Some lights on top of FIIO ones - not fun, I want something subtle on my table.

I was going to try and order Fulla E from Schiit from USA - but some reviews said it's not a good decision, but I can't afford full stack right now (concidering taxes to import the unit it's 1/3 of a price a top of it), and DAC don't have headphone socket, only AMP.

So... how can you choose something on a tight budget? What's your secret?
